The History of PHP

In 1994, programmer Rasmus Lerdorf wrote PHP as a set of CGI binaries in the C programming language. He used it to maintain his personal homepage. It was publicly released in 1995. In 1997 Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans rewrote the parser of Lerdorf’s code and formed the base for PHP 3. In 2000, PHP 4 was released. PHP 5 was released in 2005. Currently, PHP 5 and 4 are still being actively developed.
